Master of Ceremonies: Eileen Frere

Eileen Frere is the Orange County bureau chief for ABC7 Eyewitness News. Eileen grew up in Ontario, Canada where she studied Journalism and Law at Carleton University in Ottawa, graduating with high honors.

Eileen got her first broadcast job working weekends at an Ottawa radio station. She then went on to report for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) for seven years, taking her across Canada and abroad. She also worked as an investigative reporter and host for a consumer show called Buyer Beware.

Eileen later spent more than four years with KOMO in Seattle, Washington. There she reported from the middle of the WTO riots and provided non-stop coverage during the 2001 Seattle earthquake. She also covered the thwarted millennium terrorist attack that involved the arrest of a suspected terrorist at the border. She joined ABC7 in 2001.

Eileen has received a number of awards, including one from the Columbus Film & Video Festival for her in-depth look into the use of steroids. She also received special recognition from the U.S. Border Patrol for her coverage of issues involving the Canada-U.S. border.

Eileen is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association.
